On November 1, 2003, her engagement to Crown Prince Felipe of Spain was announced. Upon their marriage, she will inherit the title Princess of Asturias, and upon his acension to the Spanish throne, Letizia will eventually become the next Queen of Spain.

Married Prince Felipe in a Roman Catholic wedding at Madrid's Almudena Cathedral.

First wedding was not a church ceremony and therefore is not valid in the eyes of Spain's influential Catholic authorities.

Former television journalist. After being hired by Bloomberg TV's Spanish division, she moved to CNN Plus and then the national channel Televisión Española, where she became the regular weekday news anchor.

Was named winner of the Madrid Press Association's Larra Award for most accomplished journalist under 30. [2000]

Proved herself professionally by reporting from some of the world's most hostile environments. During the invasion of Iraq, she flew out to the country and broadcast live from the frontlines. Is the eldest daughter of Jesús Ortiz, a journalist and Paloma Rocasolano, a nurse and union official. Letizia has two sisters: Telma and Erika.

Besides her title as Princess of Asturias, upon marrying Crown Prince Felipe, she also inherited the titles of Princesa de Gerona (Princess of Gerona), Princesa de Viana (Princess of Viana), Duquesa de Montblanc (Duchess of Montblanc), Condesa de Cervera (Countess of Cervera) and Señora de Balaguer (First Lady of Balaguer).

Gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Leonor on October 31, 2005. The child bears the tittle Infanta of Spain with the style Her Royal Highness. The birth occurred one day before the second anniversary of the announcement of her engagement to Crown Prince Felipe of Spain.

Announced she is expecting her second child, due May 2007.
